Belize offers some of the most striking, rugged natural beauty. But that doesn't mean travelers have to feel disconnected. Phone services connect all of Belize to the rest of the world. Local phone services are widely available, as are pay phones. Even cellular service is easy to find. Pay phones almost all require prepaid cards, though local calls are only $0.25(USD) and calls to other districts are $0.50(USD).When dialing to Belize, the country code is 1 and the area code is 501. Belize Telecommunications Limited (BTL) runs the country's telecommunications business, and you can purchase phone cards in a range of values from BZ$5, $2.50(USD), to BZ$50, $25(USD), at any BTL office. Cellular phones can also be rented at BTL offices, including one located at the international airport. These cost $5(USD) per day. Many other phones can be used within Belize, but they may need to be reprogrammed. Reprogramming costs approximately $50(USD). This also can be done at the airport's BTL office. Long distance calls can be completed via local codes from Sprint, MCI, and AT&T. Local access numbers are available, but may be difficult to use directly from a hotel phone. If you have trouble using them, ask to speak to the operator. If the operator cannot help, ask to speak to the international operator. If none of these work, then you may need to use a pay phone. The access codes in Belize are as follows:
