Slain teen found on West Side porch - Chicago Tribune
Lupita Hernandez was a few months shy of graduating from high school and working toward her dream of becoming a nurse. But those dreams were shattered Thursday evening when a bullet pierced the year-old's chest, killing her. A passerby spotted her on the front porch of a West Side home in the block of North Tripp Avenue, police say. Police aren't sure how her body ended up there. She brought life wherever she went.
There's a lot that can happen in just 10 days, so to try and write a blog about everything I experienced at Training Camp is almost impossible. This blog alone barely begins to scratch the surface of my experience. Although the experience helped me to prepare for the World Race, it also became more of a spiritual challenge for me. Each pause in her mile run was to honor a fellow veteran battling post-traumatic stress disorder PTSD , something she has dealt with since she retired from the Marines in When the year-old attended an expedition trip for veterans called No Barriers Warriors in , she was tasked with making a pledge that involved the community. Her veteran community was the obvious choice, but picking what to do and how to do it was a struggle.
